The First of Many
THE YEAR 2008 (ALTHOUGH THE GAME SAYS 200X)
Dr. Thomas Light and his assistant, Dr. Albert Wily, build the world's very first humanoid robot. They call him Proto Man (serial number DLN-000. DLN stands for Doctor Light Number), since he's the prototype for a series of robots designed to help mankind. Unfortunately, Proto Man, overcome with wanderlust, escapes from the lab. Using Proto Man's blueprints, Dr. Light and Dr. Wily create eight helper robots (called "Robot Masters"):
DLN-001: Rock
A robot designed for helping around Dr. Light's lab.
DLN-002: Roll
A female robot designed for housekeeping. Notable for being the only female robot in the classic Mega Man series.
DLN-003: Cut Man
A robot designed for chopping down trees for use in deforestation work with the large scissors placed on top of his head.
DLN-004: Guts Man
A robot created for construction. He uses his ability to lift great amounts of weight to build buildings and houses.
DLN-005: Ice Man
A robot created for exploration of the polar regions and supervising deliveries to research teams in the very same regions.
DLN-006: Bomb Man
A robot created for construction purposes alongside Guts Man using his patented Hyper Bomb.
DLN-007: Fire Man
A robot built for waste management, using his ability Fire Storm. Also built to be able to sustain 8000 degrees Celsius.
DLN-008: Elec Man
A robot built to help out around atomic power plants who used his Thunder Beam to power the place up.
These robots were Dr. Light's pride and joy, the milk in his coffee, the gleam in his eye, yadda, yadda, yadda. The point is, they were like children to him. Unfortunately, Dr. Wily was jealous. He thought that HE should have been the one with all the fame and fortune. So he hatched a plan to get back at Light. He kidnapped all of the robots except Rock and Roll, because he thought they were useless. He reprograms the six robots to perform evil deeds. Dr. Light discovers Wily's plans, but sadly cannot do anything about them. Rock volunteers to be transformed into a fighting machine due to his powerful sense of justice, and Dr. Light accepts the offer. He is upgraded into--Mega Man! He is given an arm cannon which can fire shots of white-hot plasma, superhuman strength, super-hard armor, and the ability to take weapons from fallen enemies. He goes out, fights and destroys the robots, and then heads to Wily's castle, Skull Fortress. He destroys all of Wily's fortress guardians, and then destroys Wily's weapon of destruction. Wily is arrested and put in jail. Mega Man has saved the day! Wily will return several times, each time with new robots! Of course, he never succeeds in destroying the blue bomber.
